Handy Guys Manchester Evening News

Manchester Evening News - Santa's handy helpers get busy

Handymen became Santa's little helpers over Christmas when they were called on to help perplexed parents assemble their children's gifts.

Boxing day proved busier than expected for The Handy Guys - a south Manchester based odd job service run by John Morgan - when they started getting calls from stressed parents.

John said: "We got a call from one dad who'd gone a bit nostalgic and bought his son a Meccano ferris wheel set. Having spent four and a half hours on Christmas Day trying to put it together, he finally conceded defeat."

"It felt great to help parents avoid tears and tantrums."

And it wasn't just the kids whose gifts were proving toublesome, with one fitness fanatic needing a hand to set up a treadmill.

But The Handy Guys are getting used to getting some unusual requests. One was to install nine plasma TV screens in one Manchester home, including one in the loo.

John said: "To date, there has only been one job we've not been able to complete. One of The Handy Guys was called on to fix a broken door, which wouldn't normally be a problem.

"But the owner wanted him to get to the source of the problem and cleanse the house of spirits so the door would stop banging in the night."

"Unfortunately our services don't stretch to ghost-busting!"
